AFRICAN GREYS

  About Us

From our F.A.Q page

Q. We have been told that we should buy from a breeder not a pet store is this true?

A. This is the million dollar question, as in all walks of life there are good and bad in both. Word of mouth and recommendations are the key. I would strongly advise NOT meeting someone in a layby or carpark to take possesion of your bird. If possible go and see the bird when it is 2 - 3 weeks old at least and reserve it and visit it as it is being reared. Get to know the bird and the hand-rearers. We do not think the first time you see a bird should be the day you take it home. It is not fair on the bird or the keeper. If someone expects you to give the bird a life-times commitment (and every seller should) then it is only fair and right to let the perspective carer of the bird have a part in the birds life from the start. That said if you live a very long distance away visiting may not be possible, so this is where you must be confident in your hand-rearer.

ABOUT US

We have been keeping and breeding various types of birds for over 25years. We have kept and successfully bred countless types of finches, softbills and for the past few years, different species of parrot.

It is a hobby that just got out of hand!! which started well over 20 years ago with all the usual common types of finches then the Australian finches and nectar feeding Sunbirds and other softbills, then the rarer Parrot finches. After very successfully breeding the rare and extremely difficult Peales, Pintail and Bamboo Parrot finches, we needed a new challenge so along came the Parrots. As well as Finches, we now keep and breed various species of Parrots such as African Greys, Jardines, Blue and Gold Macaws, Greenwing Macaws, Hahn's Macaws, Orange winged Amazons and Blue fronted Amazons. We are members of the parrot society U.K. We also hand rear babies from close friends and breeders mainly also from Cornwall and species include Scarlet macaws, Eclectus parrots, Umbrella Cockatoo's, Galah Cockatoo's, Amazons several types of conures and cockatiels, all breeders are known to us for years and their birds are disease free. We also still keep and breed various finches including my true passion - Parrot finches.

We are breeders that genuinely care about all birds and we do care about where our parrots go. So if you want a parrot that has been lovingly reared in a family home, know about its needs, can meet the birds requirements and genuinely love birds then look no further. We give a no nonsence service, what we say and describe is what you get - The best companion parrots in the south west.

All of our baby parrots are reared in the home in a family environment and usual chaos that surrounds a young daughter. We spoon feed our babies, each baby is fed from seperate spoons from freshly made individual pots of formula so there is NO cross contamination, surfaces are sprayed with anti viral soulotions and hands cleansed with alcohol gel between every baby being handled. We do not force wean them, we let them wean in their own time. Each baby is sold with a hatch certificate, general care of your new baby parrot care sheets, diet sheet, info sheet and a specific species care sheet. These in-depth care sheets are of our own making and advise on books to read, societies to join and contain information on diets, special needs for certain species, hints and tips on all aspects of keeping parrots.

Please read our ‘think' page before contemplating buying a parrot.

Hi, Steve,  It was nice to meet you, Linda and Kaite yesterday. Thank you for making us so welcome and taking the time out to talk to us about the different parrot types and their habits.Your birds are a credit to you and Linda. I wouldn't have any problems in recommending you (Wings'N' Things ) to any  of my friends and relatives both as a breeder and  someone who sells parrots/ birds. I can tell by  talking to you and seeing how you look after your birds that you both work very hard in breeding, rearing, and caring for  the young birds and are very dedicated in what you do. It's reassuring to know you are just an e-mail away or a telephone call should I want any help and advice. Talk to you again soon. Regards Brian

We really enjoyed seeing your birds, they are the way they are described on your Web site and the way they are treated is excellent that is what encourages me to travel down from Millbrook to you and buy one.

Thanks

Hi Steve, I can't express enough how pleased I am with her. She is everything and more I could have wished for. She really was worth the wait. I absolutely love her to bits already. Once again I want to congratulate both you and Linda because Meyer has come to me perfect in every way and that's down to your breeding, care, consideration and handling. She really is lovely. I have got her " Stepping Up and "Stepping Down" already thanks to Linda's little tip about using pine nuts as a treat and reward when she does good. I'm getting her in a routine as to when she comes out of her cage to have a fly about and stretch her wings she loves it and she Steps Up with no trouble at all when it's time to go back in. Thank you for the offer of advice at any time it's reassuring to know that I have someone to turn to if I have any problems or I'm not to sure about something as I am learning as well as I go along. If I can be of assistance to you at any time or in any way please just ask as I can't praise you enough on your birds and how you rear them and the care and aftercare you offer with your information pack on looking after your new baby bird. Linda gave me a bag of food and goodies for Meyer which I thought was an excellent gesture and a wonderful thing to do. Regards Brian and Wynn.

Arrived home safe and well and the birds travelled well. It's a nice change to talk to someone who actually knows his stuff and actually breeds the birds as well and has a true passion for birds especially the Australian finches. The seed mix you gave me has gone down a treat, very little waste...........................

Will be in touch soon.

Hi Steve and Linda,

Again thank you for spending time with my Son and myself on Saturday. We arrived back home at 6.45pm after missing the ferry by 1 minute. The gouldians have all settled in well. Are feeding good and all have had baths. Let me know if you manage to breed the long tailed finches, what was their correct name so i can keep and eye out for them. Hope to see you again when you have the forbes ready. Again thank you Graham.

Thanks for a fantastic day on Saturday, it was really nice to meet you both. Nelson is doing absolutely great, he's all we hoped for and much more. He is eating loads, and getting lots of attention from the family. Dad was very impressed with how tame you have made him, so we will definately be down in the future for a parrot for my parents. I will send you some pictures at some point this week. Thanks again for a wonderful parrot, he really is FANTASTIC!!! we love him!

Hi there its Ian and Chris Dolton, been meaning to get down to see you all,Tink has settled in very well she is now the boss. Don't know how we managed before? She has kept us totally entertained in the evenings not to mention on our toes. She is in to anything and everything and is starting to talk, some we don't quite understand yet, but we did catch an hello a couple of nights ago. She has a habit of jumping from perch to perch also onto us, occasionally we here her crash to the floor of the cage.We are really thrilled to have her and being able to have come down whenever we could to get her used to us and us her, we feel has made all the difference and of course picking up the advice from you both as we went along was so valuable, many thanks. We will get down to see you soon.
