ABOUT US

We are based in Cornwall in the U.K. We have been keeping and breeding various types of birds for about 30 years. Our domain name of ' southwestparrots' is a bit misleading, as we mainly keep foreign finches now, we are not a commercial business just hobby breeders. We have kept and successfully bred all sorts of finches, softbills and for the past few years, a small number of parrot species. You'll notice the various parts to the site, we hope that these will answer most of the questions that you will have, if you are thinking of keeping finches and the like as a fantastic hobby, or a companion parrot as an addition to your family. If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to email, or call us.

It is a hobby that started many years ago after being fascinated by birds all of my life it was probably inevitable keeping them would follow later on. I starting off keeping the usual common types of finches then the Australian finches and onto nectar feeding Sunbirds and other softbills, breeding Copper sunbirds and Broad ringed Zosterops and then the rarer Parrot finches. After very successfully breeding the rare and extremely difficult Peales, Pintail Parrotfinches and I think my best achievment the Bamboo Parrot finches in aviaries and cages, we needed a new challenge so along came the Parrots. As well as Finches, we now keep and breed a few species of Parrots. We are members of the parrot society U.K. We also still keep and breed various finches including my true passion - Parrot finches and are also members of the the Australian Finch Society.

To find out more information on different species of Parrots, some of which we breed and hand-rear, please use the information on the Breeds page. This should help you find the correct bird for you. We have a page dedicated to the African Grey parrot, which contains many pieces of information relating to this particular parrot. But beware if you are thinking of a Grey, although the most popular by far and arguably the best talker, they may not be suitable for some people. Check out our breeds link to see which species suites you best.

There is a Think! page, which contains many things to consider that you may not have thought about when taking on a parrot. Please read through this page before you buy a parrot to ensure you are aware of the commitment of sharing your life with one. We also have a page for frequently asked questions (F.A.Q), which may help with a few questions you may have.
